If you’re an educator of any kind, you know that moment when a former student recalls and thanks you for something you said or did eons ago that you didn’t think was a big deal but it changed the course of their lives? You never know how something so simple can impact the life of another human being or several human beings.
I’ve recently been getting many calls and texts from former students to see how I’m doing or to relate something they saw or did that reminded them of me. While I am humbled that I’m still in their thoughts, it got me thinking about the amazing power and lasting impression educators can make on the lives of other human beings. It got me wanting to get back in the classroom and do it some more. Almost addictive in nature, the thought that what I do or say can mean so much to another person, just floors me.

Here’s an example of a former student giving me a shout out in a magazine article done about her and her career. I couldn’t be prouder or more fulfilled with the satisfaction that I made a difference:
"Integrity – this is my favorite word! This pairs with work ethic, but do what you say you’ll do, when you said you’ll do it. Your word has weight to it, and it will be remembered as trust worthy or not. Another industry mentor of mine, Jeremy Quinn gave me a printed out definition of “integrity,” when I was ten years old during a musical. He swore mastering the art of integrity would help me as a performer, he was right. I still have this paper twenty two years later, and cherish it."

Pure, unadulterated joy and gratitude. This may be what my heart’s been seeking all along. Thank you, Jillian - this means more than I have words to express.
